I had this issue whenever new system updates were downloaded. I found two places where the auto restart behavior could be disabled. Yesterday, my PC restarted while several important documents were open. They were saved, however, I kept them open to remember to review them. I am guessing it was removed with the service pack that was just installed.

One moment, please - Quick Fix Windows 10 Reboot Loop/Keeps Restarting Error

When I went to shut down the computer that night it restarted itself after a few seconds and continues to do so every time I attempt to shut down unless I press and hold the power button.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks Jhake, hadn't tried the registry edit yet on the appuals article and it was set to 0 initially so was hoping that would do it but unfortunately no change.

Tried installing the latest version first - no changes, then reinstalled again using the download tool - no change again. Well on the bright side if I can't figure this out I was planning on upgrading with a fresh install in the next few months anyway so this might just speed up that process.

Appreciate any more suggestions, but I also don't want to take up too much of your time for something that's just mildly annoying rather than having any real detrimental effects. Thanks again! So as an update, and for anyone having a similar issue, the problem might have turned out to be hardware fault. I was suspicious after the crashing usb connection during synapse installation so discharged the system and it's powered down properly a few times now, I'll update if there's anything else pops up to add.
